For once I agree with Tanner, so gotta give him props. Beauvillier is criminally underrated on a boring isles team, and it’s a shame he isn’t given consistent PP time and top minutes. They’d probably score more goals haha

Maybe he'll get that chance while Barzal and the other stars rest up for 5v5 play!

He’s criminally inconsistent is more like it. If he ever finds consistency he would be a great player till then he’s a decent player imo.

To be honest I was expecting tanner to take a bigger shot at the isles organization and top it off by not selecting anyone because they’re all overrated due to extremely lucky goaltending. I haven’t heard of anyone saying toews is a potential team canada candidate but that may just be because I don’t follow the isles or have any interaction with their fanbase. Outside of that, as much as I hate to say it I actually consider his answer well written.

I myself am still waiting for their massive PDO to drop, that team is soooo stale to watch.

I recall when trotz went to Washington reporters asked him if he was gunna make them a shut down like Nashville was and he said something along the lines of the press being like that because that was the way that roster was built. I think he’s doing the same thing with the isles since you didn’t see Washington’s offence dissipate under him.

The funny thing is not only do the islanders defy the analytics with high percentages and lucky goaltending but they have done it consistently since trotz’ arrival. As well by some miracle every average goalie going back to his time with the press was a vezina contender under trotz.

I think what works for the isles is every player has 100% bought into that teams structure. On paper they should probably be a bottom 10 team. I think what helps them succeed though is more of a mental factor. While other teams will still control the puck more due to skill when the isles play their physical game, players won’t make be making the best decision with the puck and consequently throw themselves and their team out of structure.
